This is an invitation to participate in a research project
Thank you reaching my page. I am looking for research participants to be interviewed for the purposes of a mini-thesis to complete my honours degree in Industrial Psychology through the University of South Africa. It is a qualitative study and will be conducted via face to face semi-structured interviews held over video conference software (Microsoft Teams).
What is the research about?
The title of my research is “Experiences of mid-career and beyond South African software developers who work in the financial services industry as to how their organisations affect their basic psychological needs.”
For the purposes of this research project basic psychological needs are defined as “attachment; control and orientation; pain avoidance and pleasure maximisation; and self-esteem.”
Eligibility criteria
- You must be at least 18 years old, and able to give your consent for the interview
- You must be a software developer working in South Africa
- You must have at least 5+ years software development experience
- You must be employed in the financial services industry
What will you be required to do?
The interview will be semi-structured and will have 15 questions covering the above psychological needs in the context of your organisation.
What will I do with your data?
Great question! The data collected (a transcription of the interview) will be processed by myself only in accordance with the purpose of the study. No identifiable information will make it into the study, and you may withdraw at any time before the study is submitted to the university.

Will you get anything in return?
Unfortunately no compensation will be offered for your participation.
